If you have an edublogs blog, don’t take the spam threat too lightly. One teacher I’ve been working with had a spam attack on his excellent blog and it was completely disabled.

There IS A FIX

Go to plugins and activate the Akismet spam filter

This will require you to register with Wordpress (this drives edublogs) and then you will be able to get a API key which will switch the filter on.

This key is available when you go into “My Profile” menu in Wordpress

Then clcik on the api key bit in edublogs and paste the key code in

You will now be protected

Since doing this, I have had over 100 spam attacks that have been blocked

How to

1. go to www.wordpress.com
2. register - you could use the same login and password as edublogs
3. then log in to wordpress
4. go to “my account”
5. click on profile
6. your api key is here
7. copy it
8. go to your edublogs site
9. go to plugins
10. activate akismet
11. click on the bit that requests your api key
12. paste in your key and tick the box that says” delete spam after 1 month”
13. voila
14. you are now protected and can forget it
