authorSTREAM - upload and embed your PowerPoint slideshows

Published by Mike Temple under Powerpoint

authorSTREAM is a great tool for getting your powerpoint files into your blog post.

There’s an embed code which is simple to use

authorSTREAM lets you upload Powerpoints, rate them, email them, comment on them and embed the Flash player in blogs and websites.

SlideShare is similar, while Scribd supports the widest range of formats. ZohoShow is another, while the ThinkFree Office suite also offers embedding of documents.

It also seems to have a slightly bigger player. I also notice that my Slideshare instructions have reverted to the original as the new, quick method does not seem to work anymore - see the Powerpoint category for more information

Putting photos or saved pics in a post

Published by Mike Temple under Google, Photo, Pictures, Powerpoint

I had not really grasped what this involved but I think delayed intelligence (or not) has finally kicked in.

I was working with a teacher today who used the upload function to host a picture on edublogs - click on browse under the edit box, then upload, after uploading, click “send to editor”

This pops the picture into the page and you can then resize it.

Putting photos or saved pics in a post

As previously mentioned in another post, I have been using Picasa web albums to host my pictures as I can upload them in bulk - whether I’m going to use them or not.

Adding a photo album slideshow using Picasa web albums (Google)

Anyway - to the point

If you go to your uploaded Google picasa web albums you can view your pictures - and use them easily

Just click your mouse just to the right of the top left hand corner of your picture and it will turn bluish, showing it has been selected.

Now simply copy and paste this into your blog post and resize to fit

Adding a powerpoint player to your post

Published by Mike Temple under Powerpoint, Slideshare

Many thanks to Graham Warren for this tutorial - here’s his slideshow

hazard symbols slide show
This will allow you to look at a powerpoint file without having to download it - it will play right here in your post - it is a bit fiddly but I think worth the effort

  1. register for Slideshare
  2. click on upload - this will allow you to upload your presentation
  3. click on your slideshow
  4. on the right hand side it has 3 boxes with code (html) in them
  5. copy the code from “embed in your blog”,
  6. Start a new post
  7. Add the text you want on the page
  8. Go to the code tab
  9. Choose where the slideshow will go by clicking the cursor
  10. Paste in the code

Adding a powerpoint slideshow to your posts

Published by Mike Temple under Powerpoint

At the moment, this is the closest I can get to showing PowerPoint presentation without having to download and save it. I will continue to look into this and see if there are any other ways of embedding PowerPoint directly into this type of post.  Before you start, check you have Flash Player 7 or above, or this won’t work.

  3. click on the upload tab
  4. select your PowerPoint file
  5. upload it to Slideshare
  6. please note files are public — anyone can see them
  7. click on grab the URL for any slide
  8. copy the content of the box
  9. you may then follow one of two paths
  10. paste the link into your post
  11. or write the name of your PowerPoint file
  12. to make this into a link
  13. select the text
  14. click on the small chain logo in the menus above
  15. paste in the URL — the Web address you got from Slideshare
  16. click on update
  17. this link will now take viewers directly to your Slideshare where they can view the slides
  18. they do not need to download any files at all to do this
